We are kicking off our new feature - Top 5 - with one of our favorite bass players, Mr. Greg "Dilly" Dillow of Brian Kirk and the Jirks. We asked Greg who his Top 5 Bass Players were and here's what we got!

5. Kevin Scott (Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes Band, Atlanta Funk Section). He's the modern day James Jamerson / Chuck Rainey. Keeping the pocket heavy, with killer rhythmic embellishments, staying true to the purpose of bass.

4. Jaco Pastorius - His playing was out of this world! He could string music together on a bass like nobody had imagined. His playing is until this day unmatched

3. James Jamerson - The Rhythm King of Motown. My girlfriend, Erin, described his playing best. "The singers tell the story, but Jamerson makes you feel every word and emotion."

2. Tiran Porter (original bassist for Doobie Brothers) - That man had groove like nobody's business! His timing and groove were incredible and his bass lines made a lot of songs what they are.

1. Pino Palladino - From playing R&B with D'Angelo, The Who, Paul Young, Go West to John Mayer. The man can do no wrong! His undeniable feel, especially on the fretless bass...every song he touches becomes gold!

Greg joined Brian Kirk and the Jirks in 2021 and has played for Chris Morisy, Nick Ryan, Doug Mikula, The Backbeat, The Unprofessionals, Undisputed, THAT Band, Atlanta Funk Section, Fred Sou and the Soundkillaz and Joe Baracata Band.

Greg hails from Union Beach and graduated from Keyport High School and currently resides in Red Bank. Give him a like/follow on Facebook (Greg Dillydilly) or Instagram.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Greg for his Top 5 - our first official one! Rock on Greg!
