Generation Next Lights Up The Chubby Pickle
Hey kitty kats! Not that long ago I announced Flying Garter was partnering with Generation Next. These little kittens made their way back to The Chubby Pickle last week in Atlantic Highlands and Cha Cha was there.
The band, all in their 20s, carries themselves with the confidence and versatility of a group that’s been performing for decades. What immediately stands out is how effortlessly they rotate lead vocals and swap instruments, each member stepping into the spotlight without ever dimming the others. It gives their show a dynamic, unpredictable, fun edge. For example, Ava went from lead vocals to keyboard to guitar to drums. Come ON.
Their set list was a time-traveling ride through the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and right up to today’s hits. Their energy never dipped. Part of the fun is hearing songs you don’t expect any cover band—especially one this young—to attempt. Their take on Prince’s Purple Rain had the whole room singing along. Who plays Purple Rain? Tell me. Name one band. Go.

I was also pleasantly surprised to hear Whipping Post by Allman Brothers. Again, who plays that? Having two keyboardists, plus your usual guitar, bass, drums, adds a whole new level. And when Kristen belted out Guns 'n' Roses' Welcome to the Jungle, well the crowd just went nuts because she killed it. Even Eitan stepped out from behind the drums to take lead vocals on Walk This Way. Dom on vocals, guitar and keys brings a soulful rocking sound. When they harmonize on The Chain oooooooo child.... that is some good stuff.
But I can't not mention the rest of the band....Shai on guitar and James on bass round out the band. Super talented and fun to watch. When this crew of six comes together it's magical <glitter bomb thrown>.
They covered songs including:
Respect
Reelin in the Years
Blame it on the Boogie
Proud Mary
Higher Ground
Dancing Queen
Like a Prayer
Rock the Casbah
Journey medley
War Pigs
Talk about variety...
