Break the bubble, break it up...

Pour some sugar on me...

It was a rainy Saturday night. So rainy, Jtweets did not want to go out. Yes! For real! The Dancing Queen wanted to stay in. But Cha Cha was not having it. She wanted to head down to Jenks and check out Event Horizon since we've been hearing about them from other musicians for months now. Umbrellas and all.

But let's back it up a bit, shall we kittens?

What was intriguing to both of us was the chance to see Henry, Event Horizon's front man. But why? While Event Horizon is a new band for us, we go wayyyyy back seeing Henry perform and have been fans for more years than either of us care to admit. We both have seen Henry perform as the front man of two of the most popular bands in the late 90s / early 2000s. That would first be Love Pumps, which evolved to Love Lies Bleeding - bands you've heard us write about before (go read our Sugardragon recap). But here's where Cha Cha Cherry and Jtweets paths crossed but we didn't know it. Both of us were seeing Love Pumps and Love Lies Bleeding on the regular at the same bars. Back then, Henry was a superstar - and guess what - he still is. And just like ghosts of bands of the past - so is the rest of the band.

Event Horizon at Jenks Club in Point Pleasant absolutely delivered. The band’s musicianship was top-notch — every song showcased just how talented they are. Let's meet these talented cats:

  • Henry - lead and backing vocals, bass guitar

  • LJ - lead and backing vocals, bass & electric guitar

  • Gabrielle - lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitar

  • Dan - lead guitar, vocals

  • T - drums

The band has a very cohesive look that just melts together. Def rock stars on stage. Their stage presence was energetic and trickled into the young crowd singing and swaying along. The crowd was feeding off the band's energy.

The setlist had a wide mix of genres - rock, pop, country, dance, today's hits, yesterday's hits. The setlist keep the energy high. They played such covers/artists as:

  • Chicken Fried

  • Post Malone

  • Mr. Brightside

  • The Jets

  • Stacey's Mom

  • AC/DC

  • Pour some sugar on me

  • Journey

  • Katy Perry

  • Taylor Swift

  • And the widely popular among the 20-something girls - Pink Pony Club

Basically, a little somethin somethin for everyone. The song that stood out for me the most was Zombie by The Cranberries (typical Gen Xer here lovin me some Cranberries). First of all because I've NEVER heard any band ever cover that. And secondly because Gabrielle - whoa girl. That was something special.

Overall, Event Horizon is a talented band that really engages their crowd. It was def nostalgic to see Henry up there doing his thing. I can't tell you how many times I had seen him with Love Pumps and Love Lies Bleeding at Jenks back in the late 90s so that was pretty damn cool. Full circle moment I suppose.

Go give them a follow. Or check out their highlight reel on The Flying Garter's Instagram!
