When all you got to keep is strong...

Move along, move along like I know you do...

This song kinda hit me square in the jaw when I was thinking of a song that reminds me of this band, or more so, it's frontman (and plus they cover it!). And if you know Sean Patrick's story, then it makes sense. In 2021, Sean was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile-duct cancer) and had to receive a liver transplant in 2022. And came back stronger than ever in 2023.

Sean Patrick and The Alibis is relatively new to the NJ bar scene over the last year but it's frontman is certainly not - especially at least to me.

A little background to get the context flowing....the super talented Sean Patrick was in Lifespeed for many years until they dissolved a year or so ago. A band I had been enjoying for many years - made up of a variety of rockin' musicians. They played some great tunes and were tight. But I didn't really get to know Sean Patrick until Covid hit us. When bars were shut down and no one was out anywhere Sean Patrick kept the music going by doing live stream acoustic jams, taking requests from those who joined in. Those live streams kept me energized and out of a funk when we all so desperately were due to the pandemic. Then when things started opening back up, Sean Patrick did an acoustic duo with drummer Enrique Salermo every Sunday at Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant. I often went to this sometimes alone to get my live music fix. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him perform - he's got a great voice, can play a mean guitar and has matching energy.

I've been wanting to catch his new band ever since I heard about them but I never quite could - until this past weekend. Granted, it was a 10pm start time at Bar A, which for this GenXer is a little rough, but I was determined to make it through one set. Sooooo glad I did.

Sean Patrick and The Alibis were just as fantastic as I thought they would be. The band is made up of five skilled musicians with multiple singers and a varied setlist - everything to pop punk to 90s alt to country (yes you read that right) to pop (any Swiftie fans?). They played some of the more popular cover band singalongs that we all love - Mr. Brightside, Sex on Fire, etc.

What's fun about Sean Patrick and The Alibis is their set list that keeps you moving and singing along and having multiple singers take the mic. They look like they love what they are doing. Especially Vinny the drummer - I want to be as smiley as him every day but alas I have RBF.

Knowing what Sean Patrick went through and following his story on social media just makes it more impactful to see him up on stage doing his thing. This band has that certain je ne sais quoi, the five of them come together and you just feel the energy and their passion.

Check them out on Facebook and youtube. Also check out some live videos on our highlights on Instagram.
