I can't begin to know when...

Well, actually it was 1985. A little band formed in NJ and quickly became one of the most popular Jersey cover bands. It's hard to believe that The Nerds have been around for almost 40 years. I don't know anyone who hasn't heard of them. They've pretty much played every venue in NJ. However, The Flying Garter caught their debut performance at Drifthouse by David Burke in Sea Bright this past weekend.

But first, let's talk a little Nerds. No I don't mean the Tri-Lambs (but there is a similarity...). The Nerds are the quintessential NJ cover band playing bars, weddings, corporate events and more. They bring fun, energy and great tunes. Cha Cha Cherry has been seeing The Nerds since her college days. What started out as a Jersey shore cover band became so much more. I mean we are talking almost four decades here. Besides their "nerdy" appearance what you get is talented musicians playing covers of songs that span genres and sometimes with a fun mash-up twist. I mean, I'm not telling you anything you don't already known. The Nerds have got to be one of the most known NJ-based cover bands around.

Since I know I'm always going to have a good time when The Nerds are involved, I jumped at the opportunity to check them out in nearby Sea Bright at The Drifthouse with Jtweets. Neither of us had been to this venue before and quite honesty, I didn't even know they had bands until I saw the posting on The Nerds' social media. The Drifthouse is one of David Burke's many restaurants but one I haven't been to yet (but I love The Goat and Red Horse). They have a great set up in the bar area for bands with a decent sized dance floor, a bar and some seating. Valet parking too (woo-hoo).

This venue is a great date night. We noticed an older, mostly couples crowd. Very low key. A little on the upscale side. Let's just say Cha Cha and Jtweets stuck out a little bit (country road, take me home, to a place, I belong, Stone Pony)....But we didn't mind because we love The Nerds and we thought this was a great venue for a specific crowd / demographic. We hope to see The Nerds there again as well as some of our some of our favorite cover bands.

Special shout out to one of our other favorite cover bands - Black Dog. We were just chilling at the bar and we look over and there is a pic of our fav Led Zep cover band guys on the wall!
