That's right...The Flying Garter was going down or rather up the parkway this past Friday night once again to Crossroads in Garwood, NJ to see The Benjamins. If you've been around the cover band scene for the last 25 years (especially North Jersey), then you know exactly who we are talking about. The Benjamins are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year!
The Benjamins are a high-energy rock cover band that is constantly evolving with the music scene and their fan base, which explains their longevity and popularity. The crowd they pull spans generations, with a heavy emphasis on our friends from Gen Y due to a set list that is big on early 2000s alt rock, since hey - that's what Gen Y grew up listening too. But you'll also see a sprinkle of some Gen Xers who likely were watching The Benjamins in their college days as well as some young Gen Zs who love this genre of music. You’ll get a taste of rock, pop rock, emo, pop punk and so much more.
Friday night at Crossroads was no exception. With just enough room to dance, the crowd was as high energized as the band as they sang along to every song the guys (and girl) threw out there. We heard everything from The Killers to Jimmy Eat World to Pink to Blink-182 to Limp Bizkit (jtweets was rocking out to Rollin')! An added bonus is the main area was open with no tables that night to allow for dancing.
Frontman Joe and his brother started The Benjamins back in 1999 in North Jersey and the band has evolved with members since, including guitarist Richie from Dog Voices and drummer Dennis from Big Orange Cone – two iconic NJ cover bands from the late 90s / early 2000s!!!!
What’s even more awesome about the band is that on any given night not only can you catch the whole band, but maybe you’ll see The Benjamins trio or Joe doing a solo act. And let’s not forget, you can hire the band with a horn section for your special event too.
Stay tuned for an in-person interview with front man Joe where you can learn more about the band and their history. You can also check out our highlight reel on Instagram to see more videos!
