***Disclaimer: This post is long overdue! I was so busy the last few weeks planning my 50th bday party with Super Trans Am!!!***
When I think about Amish people and their culture I have visions of whoopie pies, shoofly pie and horse-drawn buggies. What doesn't cross my mind is a bunch of Amish guys in typical Amish garb on stage singing hits like "Kiss" by Prince, "Fly" by Sugar Ray, Rolling Stones, Teddy Swims, Bee Gees, Pitbull and NUTHING BUT A 'G' THANG (STOP). As the kids say - "make it make sense." And all I can say it does make sense IF you ever catch an Amish Outlaw show.
According to legend, the band was formed in 2002 after three members of the band left the Amish community after Rumspringa - the coming of age for all Amish children at 16 years old where they live free of the Amish code of conduct before deciding if they want to return to the Amish community. Along the way, they added a few more non-Amish band members to create a unique musical concept.
The band is not your typical NJ cover band - and not just because they still dress in traditional Amish clothing. These guys tour the entire East Coast so when you see a show in NJ, you better get your ass there because they may not be back for several months. They have also played in Vegas, on cruise ships and many music festivals. And the crowd LOVES them. They are fun, talented and have a varied set list that is sure to please everyone. I mean they even had a conga line going when I caught them at The Sandbox last weekend.
Amish Outlaws put on an awesome show - full of energy and fun. They appeal to a wide audience young and old. They definitely bring the party when they come and are sure to get a crowd off their feet. Don't let the Amish hats and suspenders fool ya. These guys can get down.
You can check out their schedule on their website: The Amish Outlaws | Straight Outta Lancaster...They will be back in NJ in July in Toms River, Avalon and Brigantine. Additionally, they have some more Jersey dates in August.
Visit our Instagram and check out our reels to see some highlights from their gig at The Sandbox. Here's their youtube channel.
If you are looking for a fun band playing great hits check out The Amish Outlaws. I'll meet you there if you bring me some shoofly pie (wet bottom - DO NOT GET WEIRD PEOPLE).
