Picture it...a hot, summer night...chilling in your backyard with some of your favorite people...maybe a little fire pit going (perhaps some smores)....you crack open an icy beverage...you put on some chill tunes...
Did I describe a perfect Jersey summer evening? I mean it sounds pretty sweet to me. But to create this perfect ambiance you def need the right tunes.
When I first heard Marshall Ridge Band's new EP "Contrary to Expectations" that's how I envisioned myself listening to this chill, folksy, acoustic guitar-driven band. But hey, who are they? Marshall Ridge Band is an American Alternative Folk band hailing from Ocean County, NJ (some locals for ya!). The Flying Garter came across them on the 'Gram and they are super new and super talented.

Buddies Christopher Dechert and Ryan Grebel, carpentry co-workers for years, brought their passion and talent of music together to form Marshall Ridge Band. What's cool about them is their tunes are all original - everything is self-engineered and self-produced.
I love me a solid acoustic guitar song and they didn't disappoint. I don't want to make any comparisons to any other artists out there because I feel like they have a unique sound. Both Christopher and Ryan are singing together at times and their voices are a mix of smooth and raspy that balance each other out. I am particularly fond of their release of "Paradoxos" single, it gives that 60s folk vibe, love that acoustic opening and just laid-back feel. But honestly, all their songs had a great vibe to them.
I can't wait to catch these guys live. I can see it now...a warm, Saturday afternoon somewhere like The Sandbox or Seafarer in Highlands with my toes in the sand and the smell of salt water in the air. Let's make that happen please. xoxo
Their new LP just released this month and can be found on Spotify and Amazon Music. You can find a few videos over on their youtube channel as well, including a great version of "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" that I was really feeling. Give them a follow on Instagram.
