So I'm sitting at The Sandbox one night watching Amish Outlaws and the couple in front of me was leaving. I didn't know this couple but struck up a convo as they were leaving. Turns out they were going to The Chubby Pickle (love this place) to see The Bellas. They told me you HAVE to go see these ladies, they play 80s glam metal rock, dress up and play their own instruments. Whoa. I immediately look them up on the 'gram and decided, ok gotta go asap. I get to The Chubby Pickle and I was not disappointed. These ladies rock! I wasted no time - I had to know more about these ladies - and so do you.

So here you go my little kittens....Meet The Bellas...

  • Who are The Bellas?

    • Our band includes sisters Izzy Dee on guitar and Giul Dee on drums, both from Freehold; our cousin Abby White on lead vocals, who is from Monroe; and our “honorary cousin” Maggie Evans on bass, who is from Middletown!

  • How did the band come together?

    • We first came together in 2019 as a one-time act for Giul’s high school battle of the bands, originally formed with our other cousin, Lindsay, on bass. We ended up having so much fun we decided to keep going and entered a battle of the bands competition at the Stone Pony. Eventually, we evolved stylistically and went through a few lineup changes over the years. Most recently, we’ve recruited Maggie as our bassist (who we found is related to our grandma’s best friend—hence why she’s our honorary cousin!), and we’ve been playing together as this lineup for about the past year.

  • How did you get the name of the band?

    • We first began as a punk band, so our namesake alludes to our early influences like The Ramones and The Donnas, as well as The Go-Go’s. More specifically, the word “Bella” in our name comes from how it translates to “beauty” or “beautiful” in multiple languages.

  • How would you describe the band and what you play to someone who hasn't heard of you before or seen you play?

    • We’re your one-way ticket back in time to the golden age of glam metal! Our show is larger than life and brings the party the 1980s way with catchy riffs, nostalgia and always plenty of hairspray—we fuse the fashion, stage presence and sound of the bygone rock era to give audiences not just a show, but an unforgettable experience. You’ve gotta see us to believe it!

  • Who are your musical influences?

    • We each have varying personal tastes in music, but as a whole band our influences include the likes of Ratt, Poison, Mötley Crüe, KISS, Kix and Dirty Looks, just to name a few—anything in the vein of that classic hard rock and glam metal is inspiring for us, and we’re always discovering more.

  • What has been your most memorable gig so far?

    • Our most memorable show so far has definitely been opening for Slaughter at the Starland Ballroom this past Fall. The Starland is a favorite venue of ours to play, and being able to open for a major player in our genre whose music we really enjoy was awesome! Slaughter always puts on a great show, and both the band and the Starland staff & crew were super nice!

  • What's next for the band?

    • We would definitely like to release more original music and start to travel farther for gigs. Since we’re in Jersey, we would especially like to have some gigs in New York next. We’re gradually playing more shows in states like Pennsylvania so continuing to expand our reach is definitely in our future! We also have some more music we’d like to record and release, and we’d like to record an EP soon.

  • Where do you see the band in five years?

    • It’s hard to say exactly where we’ll be, but hopefully we’ll be releasing full albums, headlining shows, opening for some larger acts and maybe even playing gigs in other countries. We’d be happy just “going cardboard” so to speak, let alone Gold or Platinum, but we want to shoot for the stars!

  • If you could open for any artist who would it be?

    • Abby would like to open for Stephen Pearcy & Warren DeMartini, Poison or KISS; Maggie would like to open for KISS or Stephen Pearcy & Warren DeMartini as well; Izzy would like to open for Ratt/Stephen Pearcy & Warren DeMartini; and Giul would like to open for Guns N’ Roses, Ratt/Stephen Pearcy & Warren DeMartini or Poison, too.

  • Any current NJ cover bands you'd like to partner with and open for?

    • We aren’t picky! We have a lot of cover bands we like to play on bills with, so as long as a band is fun and fits well with us then we’ll play with them. In the future we do want to be a mostly original band, but we still wouldn’t mind playing with cover bands.

  • Favorite song to play?

    • Giul’s favorite song to play is our original Thunderbird; Maggie’s favorite is Thunderbird, Cool from the Wire by Dirty Looks, or Deuce by KISS; Abby’s favorites are Thunderbird, Cool from the Wire, or Walkin’ the Dog by Ratt; and Izzy loves to play them all!

There you go kitty cats. Now that you know a little bit about The Bellas go check them out this Saturday at Crossroads in Garwood at 8pm.
