Said the way you move....
On Friday, The Flying Garter checked out the Led Zeppelin cover band - Black Dog at Crossroads in Garwood (Union County, NJ).
Crossroads has been opened since 1996, featuring bar-type food and live music. There's not much of a dance floor as it has tables, but if you want to dance, I'd opt for just hanging at the elevated bar. If you want some grub, like pizza and burgers, reserve a table. It's a nice set up, not too large and stage was visible to most people. There is an additional outdoor seating area as well.
Onto the music...Black Dog did not disappoint. We love these guys - we are huge Led Zeppelin fans. They played a solid two hour set that had us grooving. Rob on vocals is fantastic and hits those Robert Plant notes <insert chef's kiss>. Rounding out the band, you have Dan on guitar (also a member of Sabbra Cadabra, a Black Sabbath cover band I've seen many times in the 90s working at Mother's). He does some legit magic on those strings. On bass and keyboard, Jeff is rocking away, switching it back and forth between the two instruments (side note - this rocker sells hot sauce AND wrote three books AND is also in Sabbra Cadabra). And finally tearing it up on the drums (seriously, wish my dad was alive to witness that drum solo last night) is newest band member, John (who replaced Ted who sadly passed away recently).
We can't get enough of Black Dog and can't recommend them enough, especially if you are a Led Zeppelin fan. These guys are super talented and been doing it a long time. Stay tuned for the interview with frontman Rob and guitarist Dan. Give them a follow on the 'gram or hit up their website to subscribe to news.
They have some great shows coming up at Mohegan Sun and Wellmont Theater with Almost Queen (who we loveeeeee). We don't always cross the Driscoll Bridge but we will for that show at Wellmont Theater.
Honorable Mention
We also got to catch the Black Sabbath cover band, Tomorrow's Dream, who played after Black Dog last night. Admittedly, neither one of us is a big Black Sabbath fan only knowing a few songs but musically YES. These guys came to rock and they sounded and looked great. I bumped into one of my fav chefs (thank you Chef Drew!) getting coffee this morning who is a Black Sabbath fan and he confirmed after watching some video, that YES indeed these guys are legit too. So go give them some love.
