Fake what?
Fake Fest is a week-long music event held at The Deck at Golden Nugget in Atlantic City featuring 100% tribute bands! These free concerts featured throwback tribute bands that covered artists such as Billy Joel, Elton John, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Van Halen, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC and more.
The Flying Garter was on hand the last day of the event to catch three cover bands!
Refugee - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - a new band for both Cha Cha Cherry and Jtweets
Crystal Ship - The Doors - one of Jtweets' - a HUGE Doors fan - fav cover bands
Black Dog - you know, our FAV Led Zeppelin cover band!
The day started off late and we missed the first set of Crystal Ship. We had tix to see Super Trans Am at Ocean Casino Resort (more on that to come) at their debut weekly summer show at Ovation Hall. After the fantastic STA show we headed back to Golden Nugget to catch the three above named bands - except Mother Nature had other plans. As soon as we left Oceans, the skies opened up to a major thunderstorm.
We made our way back to Golden Nugget, waited it out on The Deck only to have Refugee cancelled due to the terrible weather. Booooooooo...
But alas, all hope was not gone! The skies cleared, the rain stopped and Crystal Ship took the stage! Admittedly, Cha Cha is not a big Doors fan. I appreciate them and their music, just never really got into them. On the other hand, Jtweets is a Super Fan. She actually had seen Crystal Ship before and loved them. Judging by the crowd, Jtweets dancing her little feet away and just my own opinion, Crystal Ship rocked. The lead singer definitely sounds like Jim Morrison. Everything sounded spot on. I mean, even Jtweets was impressed Cha Cha knew "People are Strange." Lost Boys, hello? According to Jtweets, Crystal Ship is AMAZING. Take her word. Trust me.

Next up was our friends from Black Dog. I mean we knew what to expect and we were there for it. These guys kill it. I mean I'm a HUGE Zep fan and I get my fix every time I see Black Dog. It was so nice seeing them there and the crowd loving them as much as we do. Forty-five minutes was just not enough Black Dog / Led Zep for me. That's why I'll hopefully be catching them this week in Freehold.
We loved this venue for shows and loved seeing the different bands. In the future, we plan on going for way more than one day of Fake Fest. We missed far too many bands that week. Especially the Skynyrd cover band! Highly recommend if you are a fan of any of these bands check out Fake Fest in 2026.
